ERC are working with Wild Pear CIC on a project for Cefas to demonstrate how arts-based approaches can be used to assess Cultural Ecosystem Services (CES) and how these can best be combined with economic data and communicated to decision makers. The work falls under the marine Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (mNCEA) programme funded by Defra and will contribute to the UK government’s policy and decision making for marine and coastal environments.
The work is focussed on the East Inshore Marine area, and includes two main areas of work.
1. Apply an arts-based data collection method to assess the benefits provided by cultural ecosystem services in the East Inshore Marine Plan area
2. Determine how best to embed Cultural Ecosystem Services and their value into marine decision-making
To inform this project, working with Wild Pear, we have designed and planned four art workshops that are taking place at the end of November in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. We have invited residents along the coast to these workshop which will:
Explore the techniques of hand crafted photo montage
Support attendees to express their your personal connection to the coast
Ask attendees to reflect on their artwork through a short 1-2-1 conversation.
Ask for feedback on what attendees thought of the event
