The work is commissioned by a consortium of the Environment Agency, Crown Estate Southampton City Council, Natural England, Wessex Rivers Trust and the University of Southampton. Funded initially by the Environment Agency, ERC conducted an analysis of plastic pollution in the River Itchen catchment including a feasibility study into a range of interventions aimed at tackling it.
Following on from this work, ERC are now being
funded by the Crown Estate to facilitate the development of the Itchen Preventing
Plastic Pollution Partnership, as a means of taking this forward. ERC are currently in the process of drafting
a vision, aims and an Action Plan.
