Having studied at the Institute of Offshore Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh and with a PhD in marine planning, Anthony has over 25 years of experience in marine environmental science and management encompassing both an academic and professional career, much of which has focussed on the assessment and evaluation of anthropogenic impacts in the marine environment, as well as the development and facilitation of marine planning and the sustainable management of marine resources.  

Anthony has led numerous large and complex multi-partner projects for national and international clients bringing together policy makers, regulators, scientists, and users of the sea to find solutions that deliver a sustainable Blue Economy. Anthony is passionate about finding solutions to the problem of marine plastics and delivering sustainable options for a circular economy and led the World Bank, South Asia Waters Initiative funded project to conduct national baseline assessments of Abandoned, Lost and Discarded Fishing Gear in the South Asia Region, in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Anthony has extensive experience of stakeholder engagement, partnership working and marine planning.  Having worked on a World Bank / Global Environment Facility funded marine planning process for Apo Reef National Park in the Philippines as part of a Debt for Nature Swap, he now chairs the Clyde Marine Planning Partnership (CMMP), which is delegated to develop and deliver a statutory Regional Marine Plan for the Clyde region (out to 12nm) to the Scottish Government.

As founder and Managing Director, Anthony has overall responsibility for the quality assurance of all projects undertaken by ERC, ensuring that they successfully meet client objectives, expectations, and provide the highest quality technical expertise and communication.

Anthony is a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton and a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).
